The Puffing Billy Steam Railway is the last experimental narrow gauge railway built at the turn of the 20th century. It is the oldest steam train in Australia and one of the best preserved steam railways in the world. The train travels 24 kilometers, passing through beautiful forests and fern-covered gullies from Belgray to the Dandenong Ranges. The open-sided carriages are the best place to see the magnificent scenery.
Penguin Parade A magical, wild and unique colony of penguins! The Penguin Parade on Phillip Island is one of Australia's most popular wildlife attractions, perfect for a family holiday and getting back to nature. Every dusk, wild little penguins emerge from the sea, waddle across the beach and return to their burrows in the dunes. Phillip Island is home to one of the largest colonies of little penguins in the world. Little penguins are the smallest penguin species in the world and the only penguin that lives in Australia permanently.
Depart from Melbourne: At around 10:30, first go to the Dandenong Ranges to take the Puffing Billy Railway, one of the oldest steam trains in Australia. Take the train here and travel through the verdant Dandenong Ranges.
Take a bus to MARU Wildlife Park (at your own expense) to see kangaroos, koalas, emus and other Australian animals. You can also feed kangaroos and parrots in person, observe the life and work of koalas up close, and see the endangered Tasmanian devil. (This self-funded itinerary, if you miss the train due to delays, there will be no fees and no refunds.)
"Summer Time Limited Event" Nobbies Point Center overlooks the spectacular Bass Strait, and there is a chance to encounter wild seals. (This free event depends on the itinerary of the day. If you cannot visit it due to time arrangements, there will be no fees for this free event and no refunds.)
Finally, go to Penguin Island to watch the penguins return to their nests. Penguin Parade, the Penguin Island Natural Ecological Reserve, is currently the world's largest wild penguin protection base. There are more than 30,000 penguins living on Phillip Island. It has the smallest fairy penguins in the world, about 30 to 40 cm tall and weighing only about 1 kg. After the sun sets, they swim back to the shore from the sea and walk back to their nests in a swaying line. This magnificent migration is called the Penguin Parade! You will sit in the open-air viewing platform built along the coast with tourists from all over the world under the guidance of management personnel, waiting for the penguins to return home.
